In June 2013, Shale Hotels purchased the Holiday Inn in Monroeville, PA. The new ownership group has been instrumental in improving and upgrading the property, which provides convenient access to Pittsburgh, along with Interstates 76 and 376. The hotel’s location offers various options for travelers in Monroeville, while downtown Pittsburgh is located only 15 miles to the east.
The property has 187 well-appointed guest rooms, each complete with a microwave, mini refrigerator, cable television, and free wireless high-speed Internet access. Other hotel amenities include a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, on-site fitness center, 24-hour business center, guest laundry, and electric car charging stations. The hotel also offers a vending room by the front desk, where various food, snack, and drink options are available.
John Kadash, General Manager, Holiday Inn Monroeville, relayed, “Since the acquisition, Shale Hotels has poured $2 million into the hotel for upgrades and renovations. All of the hotel’s guest rooms have been renovated—half of which are Pittsburgh themed, while the other half have an aquatic feel.”
In addition to the guest rooms, the upstairs banquet room has been renovated. “We’ve eliminated some walls, enlarged the space, raised the ceiling, and generally brightened the room. It now creates a space that is terrific for any event from weddings to banquets to bar mitzvahs,” expressed Brad Miller, Assistant General Manager, Holiday Inn Monroeville.
Additionally the lobby has undergone renovations along with the adjacent restaurant, Madison’s Bar & Grill (formerly known as Madison’s Restaurant). Miller explained, “With a sports bar vibe, Madison’s now has a different feel. The restaurant also has a brand new menu with all new food items that will be quickly served.” Madison’s will also host open mic nights and local bands.
Also, a new banquet room was added to the Holiday Inn behind Madison’s Bar & Grille. “In addition to offering quality rooms to our guests staying with us, we’re also focused on being a first-rate events venue. Having the various banquet facilities allows us to give our guests a variety of options in order to accommodate them in the best way possible,” relayed Mike Hayden, Director of Sales, Holiday Inn Monroeville.
Kadash expressed, “In a couple of years, we’ve been able to positively change the Holiday Inn’s reviews. Our ownership group is willing to put money back into the hotel for a higher standard of quality—not a lot of hotels will do that. That makes my job easier, since we pride ourselves on providing friendly service, comfortable guest rooms, and an enjoyable experience.”
A Halloween-themed Grand Reopening and website launch is slated for October 29. The reopening party will show off the banquet facilities, pool area, and Madison’s Bar & Grill. Hayden says, “The Halloween theme ties in perfectly to the Holiday Inn changing its look.”
